A lot of our Halal Spotters have recommended Steak Lounge in Nottingham for us to try. The thing is I'm a bit critical when it comes to steak restaurants because there's nowhere to hide with a steak. That's probably why I was told to go try it. The beef is either of a high standard and quality and cooked well or it isn't. A bit harsh I know but in this case I'm pleased to say it was awesome.
The restaurant is bang in the city centre and you can find parking in the NCP next door if you're driving in. It was great to see Muslims, non Muslims, families and couples all enjoying their food here. It's an open plan layout so you can see the chefs in the kitchen area cooking the food. The restaurant wasn't too busy so the courses were nicely timed and the service was top notch.
The flavour was good, like seriously good!
I got the Chicken Skewer starter. It came hanging from this contraption which looked great but not practical. Have a look at the pic below
It smelt amazeballs though! It was cooked on an open flamed grill so the pepper was charred but this added a beautiful smokey, sweet flavour. The chicken was slightly charred too on the outside and succulent & moist in the middle. It had a nice tangy, spicy flavour, reminded me of peri peri seasoning.
I was raring to go for my next course; steak n mash!
The waiter asked when I ordered if I wanted it 'SL Style' i.e. marinated in their special seasoning. I declined because I didn't want the flavour of the beef to be masked. Just seasoned with salt and pepper please. I got a 10oz Sirloin and asked for it to be cooked medium with gourmet mash and a creamy garlic sauce.
It cut and melted in my mouth like butter
The steak cut like butter and was slightly pink in the middle. It looked promising. I'm happy to say it melted in my mouth and I couldn't wait to dig in. You could taste the quality of the meat and there was no harsh aftertaste either like you can get with some steaks . The gourmet mash was smooth and buttery and the flavour of garlic in the creamy sauce was powerful. But I liked that and it was a nice accompaniment for the steak. I just dipped away! Give them a try guys.
