I was so excited about eating at Rump n Ribs because of how many people have raved about it to us. To be honest going on their Inst page earlier in the day didn't help because it made me even more hungry and my anticipation to eat there only grew stronger.
What I really like about this restaurant is that it offers a really simple, uncomplicated menu. That old saying rings true 'Less is more'. You have your starters, steaks and for those who may not want a steak (why?!) you have your chicken, lamb, and fish dishes. Oh and some gourmet burgers for all you burger fans out there including a £20.00 beef burger! I had to double check the price.
The sauce was so vibrant and colourful
You get four plump prawns. The colour of the sauce was insane. I couldn't get over how vibrant and colourful it was, it just popped off the plate. I loved the drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top too, which added this deep, sweet, tangy flavour. The prawns weren't overdone , which was good and the sauce had a pleasant buttery and rich taste. It had a slight chilli kick and I could see flecks of fresh red chilli running through it. I felt to take this sauce to the next level it needed it bit more seasoning.
The steak deserved a standing ovation
I was rubbing my hands with excitement when the waiter put the steak in front of me. I was in awe at how big the steak was. It was nearly the size of my plate. The great thing about a T Bone is you get two steaks for one. A juicy sirloin on one side and a mini filet on the other. The steaks are dry aged for at least 28 days on the bone and they come from the Aberdeen Angus cattle, which is prime Scottish beef. The waiter told me they only source it from the best farms in Scotland.
The steak deserved a standing ovation. It was perfectly cooked, medium just the way I like. It was lovely and tender and broke away in my mouth so effortlessly. I got this instant burst of flavour and an intense taste of beef and the cracked black pepper added a hint of background heat. The steak had a beautiful depth of flavour, like it was roasted or something. It had no marinade on it just salt and cracked black pepper and for me that's all a steak needs. I didn't eat the steak with my go to sauces either; ketchup and mustard because when the taste is this good there is no need for sauce.
The fat running round the outside of the meat was sumptuous. On first bite it was crispy and then it melted in my mouth. It had a nutty almost sweet flavour. The vegetables still had bite and I felt it was a perfect healthy and light accompaniment to a big piece of beef. I resisted the temptation to get chips and it was so hard because they looked and smelt so good (I peaked over at the next table as they'd ordered chips). The caramelized onions in balsamic vinegar was sweet and tangy and perfectly complimented the rich fatty beef.
